Went for the day, was one of the best decisions I made. Weather wasn't hot, but water was good. Not very warm though, but perfect for summer. Day visitors need more over head coverage incase of rain
⭐ Montagu Springs Resort – Unsafe, Negligent & No Accountability I am writing this review to warn other guests about my experience at Montagu Springs Resort, because what happened to us was unacceptable and completely ruined what was meant to be a special family holiday. This trip was planned as a reunion, and my son and his girlfriend travelled all the way from Sweden for this. Unfortunately, our stay turned into a traumatic and stressful experience from the very beginning. On our very first night at the resort, our chalet was broken into while we were asleep inside. The intruders removed the sliding door off its rails to gain entry, which shows how easily the chalets could be accessed and how unsafe the accommodation was at the time. What is even more disturbing is that the people responsible were not outsiders — they were reportedly regular guests at the resort. Instead of enjoying our holiday, I spent most of the remaining days driving to Robertson and Worcester to sort out urgent issues caused by the incident, including replacing SIM cards and bank cards. Our holiday break became nothing but stress, inconvenience, extra costs and emotional trauma. To make matters worse, we later found some of our stolen belongings dumped in the river, which was heartbreaking and humiliating. The response from management was extremely disappointing. There was no real urgency, no meaningful assistance, and despite this happening on our first night, I received no compensation and felt completely ignored. I also met another couple who told me something similar happened to them at Montagu Springs before lockdown, and they were also ignored. This suggests this is not an isolated incident and raises serious concerns about guest safety. Another major concern was that the resort did not have properly functioning security cameras, or the camera system was not operational at the time. This is completely unacceptable for a resort that hosts families and tourists. Since my incident, I have heard that Montagu Springs has had an upgrade, which is good, but it does not change the fact that our experience was handled poorly and we were left vulnerable and unsupported. I will not be returning, and I strongly advise future guests to think carefully before booking here. No one should ever have to experience a break-in while sleeping on holiday.
My husband and I stayed one night at the Plettenberg Chalets at the end of a two-week road trip, mainly to enjoy the hot and cold pools. We had stayed here about eight years ago and hoped things had improved — unfortunately they had not. The booking process was problematic from the start. We booked by phone and were told we would receive a confirmation email, which never arrived. When we followed up, we were told the booking was confirmed. On the day of arrival, my father-in-law was then contacted by Montagu Springs to ask if our booking was still confirmed because they were fully booked and this was the last chalet. If that call had gone to anyone else, we may have arrived with no accommodation at all. This caused unnecessary stress and showed very poor administration. The staff on arrival were friendly, which we appreciated. We also noticed displays advertising future "2025/2026 upgrade proposals" and hoped this meant improvements had already been made. Sadly, that was not the case. When we entered the chalet, it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. The smell remained for our entire stay and even affected my chest. With several hours between check-out and check-in, this should never happen and was completely unacceptable. We raised this with reception at check-out. Although they apologised, they said previous guests often do not follow the rules and that they do not check this while guests are staying. When we suggested better checks and accountability before new guests arrive, there was no real response other than that they "can’t control people’s actions." This shows a serious lack of control and quality management. For R995 per night, the value is extremely poor. Only one small hand towel was provided for two guests, which is not adequate for self-catering accommodation. The chalet was very small, outdated and felt claustrophobic. The shower water alternated between scalding hot and ice cold, with almost no stable temperature. The Wi-Fi was unusable — open and unsecured, limited, and the signal was so weak that nothing would load. The pools were the main reason for our visit, but even this was a negative experience. We saw staff adding chlorine to the warm pool late in the afternoon and guests were not stopped from entering shortly after. When we used the pool that evening, the chlorine concentration was still so strong that both of us became light-headed and developed headaches. After staying at several cheaper self-catering places during our trip that were far better in comfort, cleanliness and value, this was a major disappointment. The chalets honestly look exactly the same as photos my in-laws showed us from the early 2000s. We are easygoing guests who rarely complain, but we will not return unless there are major upgrades and serious improvements in management and maintenance.
Beautiful views everywhere i look 😍. The chalets are good however most do have wasp nest outside the doors and spider webs. It would also be helpful if the braai areas had bricks to rest the grills on. Besides that it was a lovely experience, would go again! By the way if you do have accommodation at Montagu Springs, you can pay R80 access to Avalon facilities which includes a pool and waterside!!
We booked a two bedroom Plettenberg chalet for a midweek breakaway. It was very relaxing. Kitchen is well equipped and includes a drying cloth and a little bit of dishwashing liquid, kind of enough for 2 to 3 days. Bring your own wiping cloth and scourer. We couldn't figure out the TV 😂 and couldn't be bothered to ask for help. Telkom signal was very weak on the first day and nonexistent the rest of the time. Guests can get 1GB data PER DEVICE for free, but the WiFi is VERY spotty 🥴. Mattresses were very good and bedding clean. In the bathroom, there was a slit (gap) in the floor and we thought that a heavier kind of person could probably put his foot through the floor there if not careful. The chalet info says to lock doors and windows for safety, but several of our chalet's windows couldn't lock at all, so anyone could just slide open the window and get in... Unsettling to say the least... The grounds are well maintained and the nearby hike in the kloof is beautiful. We enjoyed observing the dassies, which are all over, but mind their own business. The playground looks fresh and safe. We enjoyed the warm and the cold pool. There's no shower at the pools. The ladies toilet had an awful, longdrop kind of smell. 💩 We'll probably go again, but it's very good that they are planning some maintenance - then it would be worth the cost.
The chalets was very run down and outdated at the Plettenberg sections. The inside of the chalet has no ventilation in the rooms. The one room had no space and the double bunk bottom bed looked like it was on the floor. The villas house was ok but also in need of TLC. Seems like someone had access to our villa as money was stolen out of our bags which was very upsetting as we went to have fun on our girls getaway. The website should state Cleary which household items needs to be hired for eg the iron there was no iron in the chalets it needs to be hired by main office but the website does not state this
If you concider the villas just know the place is outdated and stuck in the 90s.We went to the same house weve been too 2021 and absolutely nothing has changed or upgraded. It felt like the cutlery is also as old.Service is definitely something those service ladies have to work on,their smiles is as fake as their service.Pros- The place is natures gem,the hot springs and pools are nicely upgraded at Avlon springs but Once again Montagu springs is stuck in the 90s.The bird life is gone, maybe we went the wrong time of the year but all that bird life is gone.
