Truly majestic forest with hidden gems hidden behind the beautiful tall trees. So peaceful listening to the birds chirping and the slight breeze dancing thru the trees teasing the leaves. The sound of the water stream is just tranquility at its best. Best to go erly morning. Lots of shade available

Newlands Forest is a magical gem right in the Mother City. There are so many trails to explore and so many different species of plants, trees, mushrooms and birds to see. A place for everyone, wether you bring your kids to play in the creek, your dogs to sniff around, your friends for a hike, or a relaxing family picnic, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Please be aware that there are baboons in the forest, so be prepared to run into them from time to time. Please treat the forest and the animals that live in it with respect, by leaving it the way you found it. There are many trails, and some spots on the mountain you won’t have cellphone reception, so please always use a map or familiarise yourself with the route beforehand. Always carry enough water with you when going hiking. Most of the forest is shaded but there are parts where you will end up in the sun so be prepared for that as well. There is plenty of parking in the designated parking lot, as well as outside the forest.

Had an amazing experience doing the hike up newlands ravine. Challenging as it was, it was definitely worth it. The misty conditions didnt allow for much of a view but it was an experience I won't forget. I'd definitely take extra clothing, snacks and water.

We love hiking here as it is usually well traveled, so you feel safer. The trails are well maintained and clear of trash. There are 2 coffee trucks at the start and an informal juice bar. Their are toilets at the base as well.

I hike the Contour Path atleast once a month because I find it to be a magical place- great for mind/body/soul rejuvenation, away from the city-buzz & traffic. It has a lovely breakfast nook just before the trail up Newlands Ravine. I enjoy it best after the rains as the waterfalls are gushing. Multiple trails for all fitness levels or you can just take a short stroll up and enjoy the scenery next to the flowing ravine.

Large mature forest with streams, tall trees, nice benches and lots of walks. Combination of wide paths and also narrow paths through the trees. Great for dog walkers, ramblers. Coffee hut selling cappuccino’s at the entrance. Plenty of parking also.
