A really interesting day, we loved that all the rescued cats had large enclosures geared to make the cats happy not the visitors. A bit of patience and you will see them but after reading the history of each rescue you can accept why it's their choice to approach the visitors or not. The all look remarkably healthy and happy.
I'm a huge animal lover. So I was very happy to see the rescue lions. They are so beautiful and happy, definitely enjoying their new home. All of them looked so relaxed and calm in their own space. This place is well looked after. And the animals are also well looked after, and being loved and cared for. We will definitely be visiting them soon. Huge thank you to the Drakensein Lion Park for everything you do for these animals ❤️ They deserve the world.
It’s a self guided tour. We came in right at the opening. It was a cloudy morning and most lions were close enough to see. Resting and snoozing. It was very peaceful. The stories of rescue in front of each enclosure were a heartbreaking reminder of human cruelty and I am happy that facilities like this existed.
The Drakenstein Lion Park is a beautiful sanctuary for the lions, large enclosures, during hot days the lions like to lay so you may not see anything. We also saw an ostrich and a llama? at the back of the park, and a pony at the front! There are plenty of picnic benches and the grounds are wonderfully maintained! The white lions were our favourite!
They have other animals too that is shown on the page with more details and photos, however when we got there we were told the rest of the animals (sjimpansees, ducks etc) was closed to the publc, so don't be mislead - there are only lions. Would not recommend going between 11 and 1 on a warm day as they are hidden far behind trees in shade and will not be seen. Still think its amazing that they saved all these lions, good job guys - keep it up.
Went here on a school excursion and it was amazing. Kids loved listening and learning about thw lions and tigers. Very friendly staff, amazing experience and they were able to answer all questions.
Great experience with knowledgeable owners that are hands- on involved. There are way more than lions if you start looking around. Beautiful views from the balcony. A must for animal lovers.
