I recently hiked up the Little Falls Ridge Nature Reserve, and wow, what a challenge! As a runner, I consider myself very fit, but the initial climb was tough. Thankfully, the trail becomes easier as you go. I was lucky to hike on a cool, drizzly day, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The yellow and white trail markings were helpful for navigation, and along the way, I spotted beautiful flowers and even a hare!
Wow a must visit. Peaceful. Beautiful. Even though you see Littlefalls, Kloofendal, houses etc around you. You get lost in the chilled atmosphere just as easily. Not sure the distande of the routes, most likely 4.5 km all around the Koppie. However worth it. I felt quite safe. When it has rained wow beautiful and green. Have hiked here probably for the 10th time. And it remains a stunning hike.
We love hiking at Little Falls Ridge Nature Reserve 🤸🏽. It's a short hike, about 2km at most and takes about 20 minutes to climb to the top. But it's very intense because the gradient is steep. It's not for the faint hearted. Your fitness is tested thoroughly here, but it's really fun,🤸🏽♂️ and when you finaly get to the top you're blown away by beautiful views! We always take a short break at the top of the reserve and marvell at the amazing views of Johannesburg, Sandton, the surbabs of the westrand and stretching beyond Craddle of Humankind to the mountains of the North West far away in the horizon.
Beautiful place to explore. Definitely better for hiking than trail running as the paths are very rocky and a bit overgrown in places. Likely to see very few people. JCPZ need to do a bit of grass cutting and new map signboards would also help.
Just across the street from Kloofendal. Discovered this gem when Kloofendal was closed recently. A very steep hike up the mountain with a lovely view and lookout at the top. You can walk around atop the mountain, surrounded by sweeping 360° views all around. If you use the start point along the main road (park across from Kloofendal and walk across the main road), your legs and lungs will bw burning as you ascend a seemingly endless amount of rocks and ledges to get to the top. You feel like a Trekker exploring while on the top and making your way down. Personally, the elevation here was much higher and more difficult than just hiking through Kloofendal. Shorter distance, but difficult due to how steep it was. Would definitely do this again, and highly recommend.
Short scramble, wide view. We parked, took the rough path up, and the rooftops dropped away into koppies and sky. Shoes got dusty, heads got clear.
If you haven't tried this hiking spot yet, then do yourself a favor and get on with it. The most excellent views from the top
