TEARS (The Emma Animal Rescue Society)

We found our most incredible little girl Morgan at Tears and what an incredible experience it was. From the moment we got there you witnessed the pure love and joy that was being showered on all the animals in their care. From Stacey that took us around for almost 2 hours and never made us feel like we were being rushed or wasting her time, to all the staff cleaning, walking, feeding and just caring in general to every soul there, this place is just amazing. Luckily for us, our existing dog Bentley and Morgan clicked immediately on their first meetup and the fact that they have their own in house behaviorist to facilitate and validate a good match, just gave us the confidence that we had picked the right fur baby for both us, and more importantly, our current boy. Thank you for what you guys do and I'm so glad you exist to help so many animals in need.

About 4 weeks ago my daughter and I had to make the horrible choice of allowing our mini dachshund Cleo to go on living with a huge tumour on her neck which had spread to her lungs or to let her go peacefully, naturally we were distraught as she was a much loved part of our lives for 10 years. The attending vet (unfortunately in my grief I didn't get his name) who said that he was a locum was the most compassionate person I have ever come across in the profession. He councelled us before he took her in to examine her, carefully explaining everything and then again on completion telling us our choices. He allowed us in to be with her in her last minutes and encouraged my daughter to comfort and hold her as she breathed her last breath. They folded a towel up and laid it in a cardboard box, wrapped her up in her warm blanket and ever so gently laid her down in the box for us to take home. As far as we are concerned everything from the lady in front reception to the gentleman who helped us carry her to our car handled everything with the utmost compassion and caring possible. Thank you so much TEARS you guys do an outstanding job, forever in your debt 💙

The staff were super helpful and friendly. Spoke to Ruth via email and she paired me with the perfect dog for my family. We managed to adopt our new best friend in less than a week!

The trashiest place. How can one have multiple bad experiences with one place. First when I brought my rescue in when I just received her, they wanted to put her down (talk about pitbull stigma ). Thought never again. Opted for the SPCA even though it's quite a drive and had great service always. Then opted to take my pitbull to tears recently out of sheer desperation as she had an interdigital cyst which I had not known at the time and the guy who was meant to see her made us stand outside in the sand and never even let us in, didn't even look at her paw and told me to bring her back the next day with R1000 to amputate her foot! Ended up going to the SPCA AND IT WAS RESOLVED WITH ANTIBIOTICS. Get it together. You call yourself animal lovers. Pictures for reference, keeping in mind the picture of her in the red was the day I was told she might need to be put down. Probably because my demographic is Ocean View. She is happy and healthy and part of the family and I'm so glad I didn't listen to any of the crap you guys told me.

Poor experience, we were looking for homes for 2 - one year old dogs. When they came to collect them, they said they were going to euthanize them, due to lack of space. It was already difficult to let them go due to space. I was shocked and thought I need to find alternative assistance. This is the only pic I could find, how can you be so cruel. 12-03-2025(The next incident) We visited TEARS yesterday and were asked to wait outside, as we were not ready to put down the one-year-old pups—something TEARS suggested due to their perceived aggression. While we stood outside in the shade, the staff went in. Later, when I was allowed inside, I was informed they had no space and, because the dogs were labeled aggressive, we needed to return at 14:00. And we have to be their while they put the dogs down. I was deeply disappointed by how we were treated. It was clear that the welfare of the dogs was not the priority. Thankfully, I reached out to the SPCA in Grassy Park, and I’m so glad I did. The service we received there was exceptional. The staff took the time to explain the procedure, guide us through the necessary paperwork, and ensure the dogs were comfortable. Each pup was weighed, and they remained calm throughout the process. Once everything was complete, we were able to take them to the kennels and say goodbye. The SPCA will now conduct routine checks and determine if the dogs can be placed in loving homes. This is what I call excellent service. The staff at TEARS could benefit from training on how to treat both people and animals with respect. It’s disheartening that they seemed to assume aggression simply because we came from Ocean View—what a misguided perception of our community, which is filled with animal lovers. A huge thank you to the SPCA for your professionalism and compassion.

What a wonderful and heartfelt experience to have been able to adopt Gabby from TEARS. A huge thank you to Mandy for all the support and patience shown us in arranging the introduction meeting and then 10 out of 10 to Stacy at Tears Kennels for going through all the motions from start to finish to make the adoption official. TEARS have an incredible Asset in you THANK YOU. Thank you to all the reception staff for a huge role that you play in the organization. PLEASE PEOPLE DON'T BUY ANIMALS, ADOPT FROM TEARS AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Wow, what a great experience. I highly recommend anyone who wants to connect with animals and give back to the community, to sign up and go share some love with the pups. The staff are lovely and really understanding, as well as accommodating and you can see their hearts and souls are in it.
