Visited in January 2026. South Africa 🇿🇦 Plettenberg Bay. This is a beautiful and modern restaurant-brewery with a very strong visual identity. At the entrance, you’re welcomed by a small vegetable garden, which immediately sets the tone. Inside, the interior is stylish and contemporary, and you can see their brewing facilities on-site. The restaurant is spacious, very well maintained, and overall feels thoughtfully designed. FOOD: The menu leans toward European-style cuisine with a focus on meat, though seafood options are also available. They have both a grill and a smoker. We chose the pork ribs, which are slow-smoked and then finished in a Josper oven. The ribs were flavorful and generally juicy, but not entirely consistent. Some pieces were absolutely perfect — fatty, tender, and falling off the bone — while others were noticeably drier and less yielding. Overall, the dish worked well: the combination of raisins and a slightly sweet sauce paired nicely with the meat. The French fries were fried to perfection — crisp and well seasoned. We also ordered rice with seafood. The rice itself was fluffy and nicely spiced, and the seafood came in a rich tomato-based sauce. However, the dish included the addition of an anise-flavored alcohol (possibly gin or sambuca). The staff attempted a flambé, but when the alcohol didn’t ignite, they simply poured a full shot into the sauce. This resulted in a strong alcoholic, anise-forward aftertaste that overpowered the dish. Without this theatrical element, the dish would have been much better — it felt like an unnecessary and unfortunate choice. For dessert, we had crème brûlée. The caramelized sugar crust was perfect, but the custard itself was quite dense. Personally, I prefer a lighter, silkier texture, so this was a one-time choice for me. And finally — the beer deserves special mention. It was excellent. Absolutely worth ordering and clearly one of the highlights of the experience. SERVICE: Service was good and efficient. Our waitress was professional, friendly, and attentive. The wait time for food was around 40–50 minutes, which felt reasonable given the grill and smoker preparation. VERDICT: This is likely the best restaurant in the area, combining good food, a pleasant atmosphere, and in-house craft brewing. While there were a few execution missteps, the overall experience was very positive, and the ambiance easily smoothed out the flaws. Everything we tried was enjoyable, and the beer alone makes this place worth visiting. Highly recommended if you’re in Plettenberg Bay.
If you only have time to visit one place in Plettenberg Bay, make sure it’s Barrington's. This is an exceptional destination and an absolute must-visit when in Plett. From the moment you enter, you’re pleasantly surprised as you walk through an immaculate, white-walled organic kitchen garden — a beautiful and unexpected introduction that immediately sets the tone for what lies ahead. Barrington’s is home to the first micro-brewery in Plettenberg Bay, offering beer tastings that are both fun and memorable. The restaurant food is outstanding — fresh, flavourful, and thoughtfully prepared — undoubtedly enhanced by ingredients harvested straight from their own organic gardens. The service is excellent. The waiters are warm, friendly, efficient, and genuinely helpful, making you feel welcome from start to finish. What truly sets Barrington’s apart is just how much it offers in one place: beautifully landscaped gardens, shaded patios perfect for relaxed outdoor dining, a boutique wine shop, a bakery, gifts, and curated art. It’s a space where you want to linger — whether for a meal, a drink, or simply to soak up the atmosphere. Barrington’s is far more than a restaurant; it’s an experience — and one that should not be missed when visiting Plettenberg Bay.
We spent three nights in Plettenberg Bay as tourists and ended up eating at Barringtons twice — simply because it was that good! On our first evening, we had the beef and chicken burgers, both absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. We were so impressed that we came back two nights later for the Korma beef curry and the salmon, which were both full of flavor and beautifully presented. For dessert, we tried the Crème Brûlée and Tiramisu — both were outstanding and the perfect finish to an amazing meal. The ambience at Barringtons is warm, stylish, and inviting, and the service was excellent on both nights — attentive, friendly, and professional. We highly recommend Barringtons to anyone visiting Plettenberg Bay. A true gem with wonderful food, great atmosphere, and top-notch service!
They've clearly put a lot of thought into their dishes, some of the menu options were straight up inventions! Quite impressed with the food. Probably a new joint as we wouldn't have found it unless our landlady mentioned the restaurant: word of mouth is important after all 🙂
Great place for dinner, the smash burger was amazing and I loved the craft beer as well as the Cabernet Sauvignon by the glass! Definitely make sure to book in advance 🙂
Food served in such interesting bowls! Only did beer tasting, something for everyone. Beautiful peaceful atmosphere.
We stumbled upon the brewery by chance today. We were very impressed by the property. We ordered something to eat there. It was delicious. The burger was very tasty, the meat was very tender. The beer was really delicious. As a German, I can highly recommend the Hefeweizen. The waiter, Avu, was very friendly and gave us good advice. The restrooms were very clean. There was plenty of soap and paper towels.
