We have been taking our pets to Dr James for ages and I would recommend him over and over. We recently lost our fur baby after an operation due to a complication after the fact which was no fault of his, but he fought hard to save her and gave us updates constantly between the operation and when she crossed the rainbow bridge. He treated us with such compassion and empathy. There are very few vets left like Dr James. Dr James, we and our families will keep supporting you with all our animals!
Dr James is always willing to help. He loves animals and not money. He helped so many people in the past who cannot afford to pay him. He wrote off thousands of Rands and even assist those who could not pay for consultation fees. Dr James is one of the best vets in South Africa!
Wish i can give 0 stars because this place do not how to treat a dog. So backstory, my dog got sick, he stopped eating and drinking water. He was not himself as he always liked to play around because he is a jack russel. I took him to the vet after two days as he did not look good. I went in and explained to him what the symptoms was amd he just ignored me. He changed the subject when he started asking my partner questions of where does he work and did he study and all those things. It was highly unprofessional. He gave my dog an injection and did not tell us what is wrong with my dog. After the 3rd time I asked again what is wrong with my dog then hes answer were shocking. He said that my dog has gastro and laughed. I was very upset as I then asked him, how can it be gastro if there is nothing coming up or out. No vommit no number 2 nothing. He ignored my quiestion and left. We then went to pay with a shock that it was R1065 for the injection and medicine. We gave the medicine to my dog as instructed on the bottle. 2 days went by amd still my dog was not feeling better. On day 3 I decided to stop giving my dog the medicine and on that night he was eating small portions of chicken and rice and drinking water. This place will never see me again. What a waste of money and energy. I will do anything for my dog but never again at this place.
I truly wish I could give zero stars, but unfortunately, that’s not an option. I brought my baby Marmoset monkey, just 7 weeks old, to Dr. James. He examined her and said she had an eye infection. She was still eating and only had some minor stomach cramps. He administered an antibiotic injection, and about 30 minutes later, she stopped eating and began behaving strangely. She seemed disoriented, walking with her eyes closed, and occasionally stopping to fall asleep for a few seconds before continuing to walk. I called the vet immediately to report what was happening, and they told me it was likely just a reaction to the injection and advised me to bring her in the next day. Unfortunately, she only worsened overnight and passed away before I could get her back to the vet. I called Dr. James to inform him of her passing and ask for an explanation. His response was dismissive, merely offering his "sorry to hear" and claiming it wasn’t his fault, stating he had no responsibility in the matter. Her condition only worsened after the visit, and I believe Dr. James made a wrong diagnosis. His actions and lack of proper care led to the death of our precious little Marmoset, Lina. She suffered greatly, and I trusted him to help her, but instead, he failed her. Her death is currently being investigated at Onderstepoort Animal Clinic, and I am in the process of reporting Dr. James to the SAVC. This vet should not be working with animals. He demonstrated a lack of concern and made poor decisions that led to her death. His arrogance and refusal to take responsibility are unacceptable. I will continue to pursue justice for Lina and ensure that no other animal suffers at his hands. Lina was the sweetest, most adorable little Marmoset, with the big Here is photos of how she was before the Dr James Visit and the video of how she was a day she died because of Dr James.
I took my baby in for an exam after we noticed she was very weak and she was diagnosed with a gum infection. Honestly, I don’t know if it was lack of interest or a money-making scheme, she wasn’t exam correctly. We got home she wasn’t eating she was just throwing up not even drinking water The next day we called the vet, the only response was bring her back the next day, we decided to rush her to another vet where they examined her, took her vitals and made sure she was diagnosed correctly. After a few tests they admitted her with severe dehydration, after 2 days running every possible test, she was diagnosed with Feline Panleukopenia virus. We were too late to save my babies life; she passed away in the high care ward. This was the worst experience of my life I will never trust this vet ever again. I was reading through the reviews this will not be the first misdiagnoses.
Just about a year ago my 2 year old then Labrador started behaving weirdly and started loosing hair on her back and legs rapidly, as well as started getting aggressive when we tried checking what was going on. Her tail also didn't lift up as usual. We took her to Dr James as he used to be her general doctor who we trusted. As we came in he asked why we were there and we tried explaining the situation before he cut us off. We also had our 10 week old border collie puppy there with us. He instantly pushed his fingers into her coat for a quick second and instantly jumped and said she was attacked by another dog and that it was a dog bite... Without actually pulling away her coat and checking the "wounds ", we explained that she's around us 24/7 and that no such thing happened, he then said our puppy must of bit her. I then asked how my puppys bite can cause such a big problem and he only replied "its possible".. He then proceeded to give her antibiotics and sent us on our way... Costing us nearly R2k for consultation and medication. Her wounds got worse and we could see she's not healing as she should. 3 days passed and her condition only worsend, and we took her for a second opinion and explained everything to them. The other veterinary practice took her in instantly, gave her a light sedative and then shaved down her coat to see what the problem was, when the doctor came out she told us to not have a fright but that her skin was in a terrible condition and that she likely had secondary infection possibly caused by a internal infection that went undetected and then spread to the external and her tail was caused by limber tail syndrome. They gave us the right medication and had seen a big difference in her skin and herself within a day and healed up quickly. The vet even contacted us 3 or 4 times to make sure she's healing and that she's doing better as well as asked us to bring her in for a check up. Costing us R900 for consultation and medication. Her wounds had healed up perfectly and her hair grew back just fine. We have trusted him for years without problems, but unfortunately trust can not be repaired after that misdiagnoses.
Will not go anywhere else. Never have they ever dissapointed me in any treatment what so ever. Been to many animal clinic's and Doornpoort is by far the best. Thank you for always being friendly supportive positive and more than eager to help. Thank you for treating my babies like your own. 🤗👌👍
