I did this trail early this fine February morning (around 7am). It’s just over 8km long, roughly 13,000 steps. The route starts off easy with little elevation but gradually becomes more challenging. There are a few technical, rocky sections that test your balance, so I’d rate it as moderate difficulty overall. The waterfall is beautiful and definitely a highlight. The trail is quite popular, there was already a queue at the activity centre to pay the R100 entrance fee, and it stays fairly busy, although you do get some quieter stretches. There are different animals to spot if you’re lucky. Parking is safe and ample, there are trash cans along the way, and the shop has a good variety of items available. There are also plenty of photo spots, including swings and scenic setups, making it great for pictures. Overall, a scenic and enjoyable hike that’s well worth it.

Went there for hiking. The 9km route was easy but I believe that some parts of the road can be improved for safety especially near the river. I have seen the start of the hiking well marked but the finish is not.

Went to the restaurant for breakfast. The food was ok . The service was good . Was it worth driving an hour , not really. There was also a smell of sewage and the section where you enter with a canoo (if you are ok with the sewage ) is full of hyacinth . As we are on our way out we stop to buy water from the tuckshop . They have maps of the hiking trails up on the wall . Dressed in jeans and tekkies my wife and I look at the maps discussing the tails and elevations and compering to other hikes we have done . So one of the employees without greeting say "oh I see you looking at and discussing the trails where are your armband and have you paid for the hiking " . So I say no we are not hiking as you can see we are not dressed for hiking . As we walk off my wife says we will never come back to this place . I fully agree! A friend insisted we have to try the hiking trail . Went for a hike and I must say it was great . The views are amazing . The trail was moderate to hard on some sections . We have done few hikes and between this and Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve is our favorite now . The staff at reception are very friendly and helpful. The hyacinth were also way less at the entrance for the canoe section so that was great might even try that next time .

Cradle Moon is a fabulous hiking and MTB venue, with marked trails for both. The lake forms a picturesque backdrop, as do the Zwartkop Mountains. Hot-air ballooning and game viewing add to the vibe, and some good food at the lakeside restaurant is always a welcome treat

This is such a beautiful treasure to visit especially on a day visit when youre on holiday in Gauteng. Ideal if you're looking for a variety of outdoor activities. The staff at the reception were helpful and informative. Cradle Moon has 2 lovely restaurants. Parking is safe and ample. There are Toilets for hikers and day visitors as well. The hiking courses are well structured and safe. There are different distances to choose from. The courses are well marked. The beautiful day waterfall was breathtaking and a great picture spot. It had rained the day before and that morning so be cautious as the trail was extremely muddy and expect a few falls. So I don't recommend the hikes if you are unsteady or having challenges with balance. The are many areas which a wheelchair accessible. Ramps and smooth terrain in some areas but definitely not on the hiking trail. The animals where in very close proximity but it was safe as long as you don't try to feed them or disturb them. We went early in the morning so there was no waiting. There is a conservation fee to pay and then further fees for each of the activities you'd like to do. The restaurant was busy by the time we finished so there was a little wait. The views are amazing. Will definitely go back.
