Danielsrust Game Farm

Had a lovely experience doing a 10km hike, the scenery was stunning, everything was green and vibrant. There are different animals such as bucks , zebras and wildebeests. However I would strongly recommend bringing water , light snacks , bringing hats and sunscreen as there isn’t much shaded areas. Would recommend!

Rifle Shooting Range - I was really impressed with the fantastic facilities at the Danielsrust Shooting Range (The Wattle Shooting Range). This past weekend I made use of their 500m rifle range which had gongs and target holders at 100m intervals, with ample tables and chairs to shoot from which were in the shade of large trees, and a drivable track to make accessing all targets by car easy. This is so far the best rifle range I have been to with ranges available up to 1000m (as far as I know). The range fees are about average, but you get far above average facilities. I believe this will be my default range from now on, and I plan to go back with my family of shooters soon. If you are concerned about the distance from Joburg or Pretoria, it is well worth the extra drive.

Didn't believe such places still exist close buy. The farm is spacious, wooded areas and large open veld area and the bicycle and hike trails are ideal to view game. I spotted ostrich, Blesbok and Wildebeest. The farm is dog friendly but I will advice the dog is best to be on leash otherwise they will run after the game. There is a large open shed ideal for a function or picnic underneath the tree shaded areas.

Our dogs loved all the different sights and smells at Danielsrust Game Farm (Cradle of humankind) this morning. We did the 5km trail which was flat, easy and suitable for novices. 10km, 15km, pram friendly, cycling and biking routes are available. This venue is conveniently located right on the doorstop of Jozi residents. The plains are decorated with a wide variety of herds of game. The highlight of our day was a herd of Wildebeest running in the distance. Unfortunately we did not get close enough to any wildlife to take good pictures of them but there is an abundance of wildlife here. I regret that we did not have time to do the 10km as that trail seemed to wind straight into the plains where all the wildlife were grazing. We were fortunate enough to hike on an overcast and cool day. On a sunny day you will have to be sure to stay well hydrated as the plains are vast and open without much shade. Entrance is R50 cash which is very reasonable. The venue has an honesty box you will use to deposit your dues before you set out on your adventures. Sundays are dog walk days on the farm. They will accept dogs on other days as long as you arrange this with managent prior to the day. I booked via Facebook messenger and they were very responsive to my messages. If you are looking for a relaxing and safe walk amongst antelope, ostrich and Wildebeest then this would be the spot for you.

Had a nice Mountain Bike ride. I only recently found out about this game farm. Easy 15km ride, feels like you’re miles away from civilisation. Loads of wildebeest ans springboks. The area also has interesting formations due to the close proximity to the caves.

What a stunning hike. Cannot remember the distance of the trail, must have been a good 8 km or so. Beautiful and plain scenery.

An amazing hidden gem. Fantastic hiking trials. A great shooting range, clean, well kept and properly organized to ensure safety. The hiking trails are clean, very well marked and not strenious. An absolute must visit place. Make sure you have enough water for the hotter summer months. The water troughs bring a welcome and refreshing cooling down opportunity for four legged friends who accompany you on your hike.
