07/02/2026 Back to the start… The Ernst Ullmann parkrun is one of the nicest Joburg riverside parkruns. It starts in the Ernst Ullmann recreation Centre, which has parking inside, but get there early as it’s through a boom that takes time. The run starts at the bottom of the field and heads south up the hill towards the buildings before heading onto the river path. Just before South Road, you do a small loop and head back on the same route back. It’s into the slower runners, but that’s not a problem cause everyone keeps left. Near the start you do another loop and head back on your second loop. The finish is past the start after your second lap and up the hill. It’s a great parkrun. There is a cafe that’s makes a great cappuccino. I rate this a 8/10 Windgat Tourist Streak #99

Small community making Parkrun super. Race director gave a warm welcome and explained the route to the newbies. The group was mixed from very young to seniors. The route is mostly flat, 2 laps. People with dogs on a leach, kids on off road balancing bikes. A off-road pram will do fine on the terrain. Park your car and go to the bathrooms, the start is a good distances from the start point. The area was safe and enclosed.

🎈Keep Moving 🦕 Just did my second Parkrun for the year. I am always encouraged with my fellow community of runners and walkers. This is a place of diversity in age, race, gender, health ability. Throughout the race there is constant encouragement and a sense of togetherness. Some superfast, making their return just as we get a quarter way through on our first lap. 🙌 We cheer them on! There are the groups, families and friends. Some have done 250 runs others 200, 150 and 50 and every week a first time runner joins us. Parkrun is not a competition. It’s about comrades on the move. 👯‍♀️ Then there are the support staff: a team of volunteers, preparing the track before we get there and clearing up after we proudly post our run times. The ones bringing water for us, standing at milestones and the sweepers who trail behind the last walkers so no one is left behind ❤️ Today being the 300 run at Ernest Ulman, the race director announced prizes. Not for the first 3, 5 or 10. rather for the 1st, 3rd, 15th, 25th, 35th, 45th, 55th, 65th … you get the point. Being on the track is first prize for everyone that shows up. 🏆

Needs a proper clean up and a refurbishment. Many parts of it are in decay. The businesses running there are obviously not working closely with the city to make this place better or restore it to its former glory. There should be a mandatory requirement to improve this place if one is running commercial initiatives from this park.

What a lovely 2 lap parkrun in the middle of the concrete jungle. Well organised with many volunteers, who even had water for participants and dogs at the end point. The route felt quite safe, and there is enough parking and public toilets available. Parking is an odd 200m from the start, and you almost get the impression that there's no event when arriving - until you walk around the buildings between the parking and the start. Beautiful setting next to a river running in a green strip between two residential neighborhoods. Route is accessible to off-road prams and kiddies bikes. Dog friendly route, however unfortunately two land mines were left lying along the route by dog owners today.
