We had a thoroughly enjoyable, tranquil and relaxed 2 night stay. Welcome was warm and friendly, staff throughout were exceptionally professional, obliging, friendly and very pleasant. A rare find! Our room was superb - beautifully appointed, very spacious and had much needed aircon. Immaculate gardens, exquisite reception rooms and inviting pools made for a wonderful stay. Highly recommended.

I love the place, the deco and the lovely terrace. I wasn't very impressed with the menu. The Hake and 5 pieces of chips looked a bit dull on the plate and unfortunately the tiramisu was sold out. The Africology spa is amazing, very nice, well trained staff... I enjoyed their hotstone massage en a fabulous pedicure.

The Drostdy Hotel is a beautifully appointed place, with incredible attention to detail. We felt welcome from the minute we arrived at the Security Gate where we were welcomed with a friendly smile and directions of where to go. The Reception Staff, Porter and everyone who assisted us made us feel welcome. We specifically loved the welcome letter to our little French Bulldog. The food and room service excellent. We were served a world class breakfast in the morning. We would definitely love to spend more time at the stunning Drostdy Hotel

Really elegant hotel if your are passing through area. Good food, bar area indoors and out. TV for the avid Rugby fans. Relaxing place. Pet and kid friendly. Service is really good. All staff extremely friendly and helpful.

A very charming hotel with outstanding food and wine. Reception was friendly and professional, but the welcome felt somewhat formal rather than genuinely warm. It would also have been nice to have a little more proactive help with luggage.

Pretty buildings alone is not what makes for a good stay. We booked the hotel as we normally do driving to and from Cape Town. We booked in March 2025 for our December trip staying on the 13th Dec and 1st Jan. We called to confirm a week before arriving and also received a confirmation email a couple of days before. To our shock when we arrived there was no record of our reservation and all we received was excuses that it was not the person we are speaking to at fault - blaming others was the order of the day. No apology or solution was forthcoming - this was now 11 hours on the road at 17h00 with no alternative accommodation in Graaf Reinet. Without much of an apology or solution from the staff we then requestes that our stay in Jan and dinner for the night be paid for as we now had another four hour drive ahead of us. They did not want to pay for dinner but agreed that our stay in January would be paid for. Come January - just leaving now - we have stayed many times and the hotel is beautiful, the rooms clean and very comfortable for an overnight stay. We always enjoy it - but the service in the restaurant, as with all the other years we have been coming, is not great. We tolerate it as it is a teaching hotel (albeit the prices do not reflect this) Last night we had made a booking for dinner at 19h00 - I went to the restaurant at 18h50 whilst the rest of the family was still getting ready and the first response I got was "good evening, you are early, dont worry we will make a plan" not very welcoming, the restauarant was only 20% full. Then my two sons ordered the ostrich steak - the waiter arrives and announced "lamb?" We then said no we had ordered the ostrich after which he disappeared to the kitchen coming back after a minute to say - sorry this is the ostrich. This morning my husband and I ordered hot breakfasts - only one arrived - after 10 minutes I checked if the other is coming and said if they have not made it its fine I will just take some things from the buffet. The breakfast then arrived 5 minutes later in a take away box. I may be harsh, but after all that has happened I am saddened that our holiday started with a disaster and I am leaving with anger. Not sure I will be back and it saddens me.

The Drostdy Hotel was truly one for the books. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning setting – vibrant bougainvillea, and the crisp beauty of the whitewashed buildings that instantly make you feel like you’ve stepped into something special. What stood out even more was how pet-friendly the hotel is. Our dog was treated like royalty, with two stylish dog bowls, a cozy dog bed, treats, pet food, and even a sweet note welcoming our furry child. It was such a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the rest of our stay. Our room was exceptional – spotless, stylishly decorated, and incredibly comfortable. The turn-down service in the evening was a luxurious detail that made bedtime feel like a pampered experience, complete with robes and slippers laid out. One of the highlights was our private dinner in the hotel’s beautiful wine cellar. My fiancé had the lamb chops and raved that they were exceptional, while I enjoyed the rib-eye steak – honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere, food, and attention to detail made it an unforgettable evening. What impressed us most, though, was the consistent excellence of the service and hospitality. Every interaction was warm, professional, and genuine – the staff truly go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. I can’t recommend the Drostdy Hotel enough. Whether you’re planning just a stopover or, ideally, a few days in Graaff-Reinet, this hotel is a destination in itself. A perfect combination of luxury, charm, and heartfelt hospitality – an absolute gem.
