Tropicum Pet Shop
Tropicum Pet Shop
Located in Cape Town, Tropicum Pet Shop offers a selection of pet supplies and animal care services. They've been a fixture in the community for many years, establishing themselves as a long-standing provider. While competitive pricing has been appreciated by some, it's important to consider overall animal welfare.
The shop's commitment to responsible pet ownership appears inconsistent. Observations regarding animal living conditions and grooming practices require closer inspection to ensure best practices are upheld. A focus on species-appropriate environments would significantly enhance their service.

Customer Reviews
Tropicum Pet Shop has a rating of 3.8 out of 5 based on over 124 reviews on Google
I’m genuinely appalled by what I saw at this pet shop. A conure was being kept in the same cage as several cockatiels, and every single one of the cockatiels had lost their crests. This is a clear sign of aggression and feather pulling, almost certainly caused by the conure. These species should never be housed together, as conures are known to bully and injure more gentle birds like cockatiels. In addition, the cockatiels in this pet shop all have severely butchered wings. The trimming is uneven and extreme, leaving them unable to balance properly, let alone fly. This type of trimming is cruel, unnecessary, and dangerous for the birds’ physical and emotional wellbeing. Their diet is also a serious concern. As far as I observed, the birds’ diet consisted solely of sunflower seeds. This is completely inadequate, unhealthy, and neglectful. When this was brought to management’s attention, they did not appear concerned whatsoever. That level of disregard for animal welfare is deeply disappointing and unacceptable. These birds are clearly stressed and being physically harmed, and management’s indifference only makes it worse.
Please don't ever send your pet here for a wash they to lazy to wash your dog then they end up shaving it. this place is horrible and the worse service you will ever get
Great shop. Excellent prices. Been a customer for 40 years.
Poor kittens are left in a terrible state. No freedom at all. They live in their own urine. With a cardboard box as their shelter. This place needs to be shut down.
Friendly services and the sales assistant went out of her way to help us.
The environment the birds live in are unsanitary and the cages have rust on. They advised a seed diet for a cockatiel, which is wrong and not the right diet for any parrot or cockatiel. Moreover, my cockatiel picked up avian chlamydia from this petshop. The bacteria was dormant until my cockatiel was about 15months old. If anyone has bought a bird from this petshop, and the bird shows signs of congestion and respiratory issues, take them to the vet immediately, as the avian chlamydia needs to be treated with a long and expensive antibiotic regime. Never going back. Please do not support them.
Horrible place and rude staff don't ever go here
