My husband and father ran into Emilia during their morning seaside walk while we were on holiday in Hermanus. While chatting, they discovered that she owns a coffee shop and makes her own pastries. She kindly gifted us an assortment of lovely croissants and other pastries. We sampled almond orange and Lindt chocolate croissants, a cinnamon cruffin, a caramel custard cruffin, and a lemon biscuit. I also had a cappuccino. Everything was absolutely superb. Coming from France, I can honestly say her pastries rival — and in many cases surpass — many French pastries I’ve tasted. The cappuccino was also hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. Definitely worth popping in if you’re in Hermanus !

My family and I ordered three different croissants: cheese and marmite, biscoff and peppermint crisp, which was my absolute favourite!! I was so tempted to get another one for myself. The quality of the actual croissant was also fantastic. I’ll be honest and say that I didn’t like the coffee. My brother, on the other hand, loved it. Not educated enough to say why I didn’t like it but I think it was a bit too acidic for me (?) Besides that, the way they present the coffee is awesome. I’ll definitely give the coffee a second chance because I know a lot of people rave about it. Other than that, the croissants were fabulous and that’s all that counts 🤪

This place is superb! Pair your black medicine with the perfect pastry, if your preference is savoury the marmite and cheese croissant will make you experience something from a special planet!

I've loved Black Medicine since the day they opened, and it hasn't changed after all these years. Their high standard for food, coffee & interior decoration is top notch. The inside can be very noisy; they also have lovely outside seating under umbrellas. Best of all, they have consistently good coffee — 10/10

BEST croissants in Hermanus!! Coffee is delicious, and staff are always friendly. A few tables outside which are lovely to sit at on a warm day. Gets busy on weekends and on holiday season, so make sure to get there early to ensure you get a croissant.

Such a cute coffee shop and great vibes, I stumbled across this place whilst doing some shopping. The coffee was great but unfortunately I had to wait 20 mins for my takeaway order to come whilst watching people who ordered way after me receive their drinks. Such a shame the service made this experience and amazing taste of your coffee slightly less enjoyable.

I’m a great fan of everything you touch Emelia, food is always Devine. Sadly my experience at BM was not great. The croissant was Devine, the service was not. The lady at the front was sullen and cheerless, borderline rude , there were flies covering the food in the display cabinet and when the roll was taken from the cabinet, it was placed on an upturned white drum in the kitchen? , when served the cappuccino was cold, and we were told we have to ask for hot coffee? The tables outside were sticky. Staff def need attention to service, hygiene and attitude.
