Had an awesome time here today! It's been many years since coming here, but I really enjoyed myself and will be back again soon! My partner loved it, the birds are beautiful the park itself is beautiful and absolutely worth the visit. The bird show was lovely as always! Can't wait to go back! My only complaint is the café, the food is mostly feels like kids food and for what you pay for some of your items it's just not worth it. I wish there were better food options at reasonable prices. I'd rather pay more for entry tickets than on kids food. For context a lunchbar was R25. The veg breakfast was R75 for 1 meat free sausage, a few underdone chips, 2 slicesoff toast and a slice of tomato - it's was a kiddies portion. The price would be okay if it was a decent meal for adults. If the food quality was better it would make the experience much much better.
Having visited the bird park over 20 years ago, it is evident it has struggled with the floods, loss of birds, covid but moreover i think its most impacted by the municipality taking over from previous tsogo sun ownership, presume its the age old story of limited funding available, governance challenges and lack of financial support. Overall a must visit for anyone with love for birds and let's do what we can for our loved bird park They need our support.
Me and my small university class came to Umngeni Bird park for art inspiration and there were a lot of gorgeous birds on display. Some, heartbreakingly, looked ill taken care off and were tearing off their own feathers😢
It was a great experience, especially for kids! They seemed to enjoy it even more than the adults. Although the variety of birds wasn't extensive, the kids had a blast. I didn't feel like it was crowded, but I can imagine it would be busier during school holidays. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit!
This is a difficult review for me but I still give it 5 stars. Any less and they may not be featured in recommendations of things to do in Durban. And you should definitely visit the bird park! The park showed some signs of deterioration from a previous vidit, but the birds looked well cared for despite this. You have educational boards up at every exhibit, so thinking school excursions would be a wonderful boost for young minds and support this park. We did not see the bird show, hosted twice daily - but i remember it being such a wonderful experience. And if for no other reason, there are 2 birds in the park that stole my heart many years ago: a yellow crested cockatoo - who is the friendliest little thing ever. I don't think we should scratch their heads through the wires, but this one allows me to and actually throws a little tantrum when you stop or move on. The other us a another parrot who learned how to say "hello" and just repeats it non-stop while you are visiting his home. So cute!!!
Place is clean, birds are caged (some) and well taken care of. I had a great time with my girlfriends Linda 🫠. Laughing kookaburra took the crown
My kids loved this place. The lady at the entrance spent time explaining to us about different types of birds. The tuck shop man and the gogo there were very friendly. unfortunately we didn't get on time for the show. I deeply love this place
