My heart go out for Bella as I do understand as I all so lost my baby 4 weeks ago. For 16 years I was with Strand Animal Hospital and the Dr is amazing, caring and always available to address concerns and give advice. I blindly trust them and never question there diagnosis. Unfortunately because of this my baby is no longer with me. We took him in multiple times with the same problem. 1 look kidney failure no blood test to confirm it. I dit not agree keep saying it is a GI problem. I took him in on the fryday again kidney failure 4 days later he was so bad I call the Dr to ask can I bring him in he is really not in good shape. I took him in with 1 look again definitely kidney failure. At this point I really just need to find out what is going on with him becausei knowit is not his kidneys. I ask the Dr please run blood test. 10 min later the Dr came out with results not kidneys failure but glucose very low and indicate infection. He was admitted to the hospital. Thay dit everything thay can but it was to late. 2 days later he died. Everyone can make mistakes and I really love all the Dr there. All I ask before making an diagnosis please check and check again do follow up's. Look at the patient check everything do blood before making an diagnosis. My baby had sepsis and if it was picked up earlier maby just maby he would be here. I feel guilty as I din't advocate more and demand more test on him. Thank you for being my Vet for 16 year's thank you for being there for all the up and down. Thank you for being with him till the end but unfortunately because of this I moved to an different vet.
SADNESS… ANGER. My Schnauzie Bella died today. I feel I need to share what iv experienced today. And what Ive experienced at Strand Animal hospital in Strand since the end of 2025. The very short version: at this vet,, appointments are book 15 mins apart.,, from my understanding there are 3 vets at this practice. Towards the end of last year my Schnauzie Bella had bad diarrhea ,, there was blood in her poop. She was given some meds and off she goes. A very quick diagnosis, Under 10 minutes and no further examination ,,, just some meds. But the thing is,,, iv recently taken all 3 my dogs to Strand Animal hospital,, a total of 4 appointments. 75% of the time i had to sit in reception and wait , even thought i had a scheduled appointment. Today i showed up with Bella just minutes before her appointment and i told the blonde lady at reception that my Schnauzie is very sick. I was told to take a seat . "Dr will be with you shortly " I waited and waited,,, the same lady glanced at me later and smiled,, sometimes a smile is not friendly ,, sometimes a smile is a tool used to downplay a situation. I waited some more while Bella was virtually lifeless in my arms. Later the lady got up and walked passed ,, I sat less than a meter away ,, I could ferl how Bella was struggling to just breathe and for a second I knew,,, she was going to die today. The lady walked past me again as we were waiting ,,, and i asked her " how much longer do we have to wait ?" Her reply " Dr will be with you in a second " Finally the vet calls us, we enter the examination room and as I lay her near lifeless little body down on the table I also start to express my unhappiness with this practice. The vet says " she is very sick" exactly what I said when I arrived. 5 minutes later Bella died. An X-ray revealed she had a big growth inside her. End of 2025 this same vet examined Bella,,, I told him there’s blood in her poop. He didn’t suggest an X-ray ,, just some meds. While theres a massive growth inside her little body. Sad and furious I told the vet,,,, " I’m sitting in reception with my dog dying in my arms and nobody cares,, when I reported at reception I stated my dog is very sick,,, my concern was not attended to ,, I was told to wait. So we waited. This was the 3rd out of 4 appointments where I had to wait with my dog to see the vet at this practice. I watched Bella pass away. And i told the vet,,,, "my dog is dying in my arms as i sit and wait in reception" He says " i know ,,, thats wrong, im sorry" Afterwards i confronted the lady at reception and told her " my dog just died" I expressed my utter disappointment in the lack of care,, the lack of urgency,, the lack of compassion ,, the lack attentiveness on their part. In return the lady smirked, simply dismissing my dismay. Non of the staff at reception offered their condolences not a single kind word. NOTHING. Nothing but arrogance, disrespect and dismissal. Before I left the vet says " I will call you at 6" ….. I never heard from him. Bellie,,,, you deserved better. Strand Animal Hospital
The team at Strand Animal Clinic showed us nothing but compassion, dignity, and kindness during one of the hardest moments of our lives. Saying goodbye to our 17-year-old cat was heartbreaking, but they handled everything with such gentleness and respect that it truly brought us comfort. They took the time to explain everything, never rushed us, and treated our girl as the deeply loved family member she was. Their calm, caring presence made an unbearable moment a little more bearable. We will always be grateful for the empathy and professionalism shown to us. Thank you for giving our beloved cat a peaceful, loving goodbye.
I would like to thank the team at Strand Animal Hospital for their professionalism and compassion during one of the most difficult moments as a pet owner. Yesterday I had to euthanise my dog, Dakota. It was an incredibly emotional experience, and although I left without properly greeting or thanking the staff, I want to acknowledge how calm, respectful, and professional everyone was throughout. The care and dignity shown to both Dakota and myself did not go unnoticed. Thank you for the important work you do and for supporting pet owners during such painful moments.
My cats and dogs have been patients at Strand Animal Hospital for more than 15 years. All the drs there are very compassionate, knowledgeable, and thorough with examinations. The receptionists are very kind and friendly and the hospital is spotless. I would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone.
Dr Shelley is absolutely amazing! My sweet little sausage dog Skollie passed away last night after suffering from allergic bronchitis for a very long time. Dr Shelley Barnsley attended to him during his last couple of visits at the vet and cared with so much empathy and kindness. Today when I took his body to get cremated she spoke to me with so much compassion and reassurance whilst allowing me to say goodbye in private to my sweet Skollie one last time. Thank you Dr Shelley, you made such a difficult process and such a deep loss so much better.
