Only a limited number of vehicles are allowed into the park. If you’re permitted to enter with your vehicle, you can save about 5 km one way on the hike to the waterfalls. Otherwise, you can park at the gate (card payment is available at the entrance, or you can book online) and hike from there on. There are also many other beautiful hiking routes to explore.
Magical place! The views are out of this world. The trails are in great condition and very well signposted. The access was easy and straightforward and I loved the coffee place at the entrance to the park. Will come back to do more trails for sure!
Jonkershoek Nature Reserve is breathtakingly beautiful and definitely worth a visit. Personally, I would recommend a week day for a hike, as weekends can get really busy. The gates open at 7am on weekdays. Only 20 vehicles are allowed to enter per day, and one cannot book in advance. It is a 5km drive to where the actual hiking trails begin. If you are late, you have to walk the first 5 km's, which will add 10km's to your hike at the end of the day. We were at the gate on a Monday morning at 7am and the first vehicle to enter. I recommend taking swimming costumes as it is really great to cool down in the river or in one of the many pools along the river. We saw quite a lot of baboons, so just be aware and watch out for them. Most of the hikes are out in the open and it can get very hot, so be sure to remember sunscreen and hats.
Walked to the first and second waterfalls. Can either purchase a ticket online or at the gate. For the waterfalls hike it is better to park inside as it is about a 5km walk from the first gate to the start of the hike (unless you want the extra distance). Hiking to both waterfalls is just under 6km. Entrance is R70pp for the day. There are other hikes in the reserve as well as trail running and cycling tracks. All of them can be found on the Cape Nature or MTO Trails websites. Well signed and well kept trail. Thank you Cape Nature and MTO Trails!
What a gorgeous place! The fun os in the reserve is so beautiful, as are the views. There are enough people there for it to be financially supported but not hectic. We went on a guided walk, which I recommend for the first visit but a guide is not essential. Plenty of water is though. We walked to the second waterfall which was amazing. Take food and water with you, or buy at the cafe, as you will need it There is a good cafe at the entrance and there are clean loos. A pass is not expensive and a good day out.
Spend some time in nature under the sun, being active while working on that tan... so many paths to follow, challenge yourself on the rolling hills, hike panoramic views and cool off at the waterfalls or rock pools along your way! This place has amazing healing abilities go see for yourself
Stunning scenery for hiking or biking. Lovely coffee shop at entrance. Places to drive nearer the trails. Signage and maps could be improved- we lost our trail as did other people we met en route.
