My partner and I recently had dinner at Feather and Flat Caps in Montague. While the atmosphere was relaxed and the front-of-house staff provided excellent service, the food was unfortunately a major disappointment. I ordered the beef fettuccine, which arrived swimming in oil and was nearly inedible. My partner chose the butter chicken curry, but what was served was far from a curry. It tasted more like steamed chicken breast with rajah spice sprinkled over it. It was evident that the kitchen lacked both skill and understanding of the dishes they were attempting to prepare. After only a few bites, we decided to take our meals away simply to spare our waiter from having to deal with the situation. The staff were attentive and friendly, which we truly appreciated, but the food itself was horrendous. Based on this experience, we will not be returning. Hopefully, other dishes on the menu fare better than what we encountered.
Our group of friends visited on the 1st of January with the aim to have something to drink and eat, however very quickly got told by the same gentleman/management who welcomed us with our kids that "people" have complained about the kids being noisy and if we can keep it down. The restaurant was not busy and you saw we had kids, so if this is not a child friendly restaurant then say so upfront and don't offer a playground on the premises!! Managed to gulp down some of our drinks within the short time being there and left disgracefully uncomfortable. Utter disappointment in the treatment by management and missed out on a big bill.
We went for breakfast but had lunch as there breakfast served ended at 10. Their dog friendly and allowed my fur-baby on the terrace Their service was great and food really good. I would recommend for food people who loves good food.
What a pleasant surprise. Art deco styled hotel on the 'platteland' that offers so much. Squeaky clean bathrooms. Perfect service. Great menu. Can't ask for better at this price. Highly recommended.
I visit F&F regularly to have my meetings here or enjoy the great fire place in the winter and watch rugby or tennis on the TV. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I love the new deck in the front - it is a great place to hang out over the weekend in summer. Or if I want more privacy, the back garden is such a secret tranquil place to have a cocktail.
The staff at Feathers and Flatcaps is extremely friendly, helpful and professional. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone. They have the best cheesecake and an absolute relaxing vibe. The menu has a variety of options to choose from and is affordably priced.
We hung out in this cosy bar twice while staying at the hotel for a weekend. First night it was close to the fire and in the company of the friendly bar staff who can't do enough for you, before heading to Charlestons for dinner. Love the beautiful art deco-inspired wallpaper, booths and old bar counter. On day two it became the hub of the town with a lively Springbok game where again the staff managed to keep everyone jolly and served (and we won the match!). Nice that the kids could eat bar meals in Flatcaps (with handy plug points for the ever-charging tech, right under the table). This is also a coffee shop with Bootleggers during the day and a spiffy newly installed cabinet boasts some delicious cakes. The tourist office is right next door so it's a good spot to check in, book some activities (Flying Bikes, a must!) and enjoy a coffee or drink on the terrace. We'll be back!
