Compassionate, friendly staff. Organised & efficient. Had to have my Labrador put down due to old age & during this sad ordeal the Jhb SPCA was absolutely wonderful. Thank you so very much for making this dark day a bit brighter. You are a very special group of people ❤️ 🙏
I was very appalled when I called on Monday 12th of Jan. My husband had to leave his 2 beautiful female dogs there on the 10th of Jan as we had no space for them but I advised the SPCA that I have someone that wants to adopt them on the 12th, when I called them they advised me that they put them down, absolutely unlawful, they advised they had an issue with them but I would've expected them to contact us as we advised someone wants to adopt them. They were absolutely inconsiderate.
I am extremely disappointed by our recent experience at the Johannesburg SPCA. Before visiting, my daughter checked their website to confirm whether nail clipping was a service they offer. The site clearly states: "We also assist the public with vaccinations, sterilisations, dentals, microchipping, nail clipping and deworming." Based on this information, she took a stray kitten we’ve recently taken in to have its claws clipped. When she arrived, the staff were dismissive and unhelpful, and she was told outright that they do not offer this service — directly contradicting what is publicly advertised. She had to walk in and out twice just to get basic questions answered, including something as simple as an estimate of the kitten’s age. The attitude was cold, impatient, and unnecessarily rude. What makes this even more frustrating is how quick the organisation is to ask the public for donations, while being unwilling to assist in ways they themselves claim they do. Many people come to the SPCA trying to do the right thing for animals, especially strays — and this kind of treatment discourages exactly that. I understand that shelters are under pressure and resources are limited, but there is no excuse for misleading information and poor treatment of people who are genuinely trying to help animals. This experience has left a very sour taste, and I sincerely hope management reviews both their public communications and their approach to dealing with the public. Do better guys!
Took a stray in, was willing to adopt the animal but unfortunately he was to sick, but they kept me updated of everything till he was put down. They passion shows just when you enter. Great Job and Thank you for everything yous do for our f ur babies...
We went to Booysens SPCA yesterday. Staff were friendly, however many kennels were filthy, full of dog shit that had not been cleaned for days. Poor dogs were jumping around in their own faeces. No open space for dogs to get a chance to run around.
Great customer service and beautiful animals. Especially a dog called Socks. He has so much character and so much love to offer a potential family.
I had such a pleasant experience at this SPCA. Adopting my little fur baby was a seamless process, from meeting her, the adoption and bringing her in for her follow up vaccination. Only removing one star because of how long I’ve had to wait every time I was here. It may be that they’re a little short staffed or maybe this is the case only during the weekend.
